WASHINGTON TWP – . An 18-year-old man is facing theft charges after allegedly stealing power tools from a township resident, police said.
On Dec. 14, a township resident reported that he had several power tools stolen from an enclosed trailer that was parked in his driveway, police said.
The tools included a Stihl Chainsaw and a Dewalt multi-tool kit with accessories and the total value was placed at $1,050, police said.
The investigation was turned over to Washington Township Detective Bureau and assigned to Detective Sgt. Brian Szymanski and Detective Cpl. Roger Garrison.
The detectives reviewed the case and established a suspect of interest after seeing the items advertised for sale on the Internet, police said.
The detectives arranged a meeting with the suspect under the intent of purchasing the equipment, police said.
At the meeting, the suspect, Robert A. Bace, 18, of Port Murray, was identified as the actor who stole the power tools on Dec. 14, so he was placed under arrest, police said.
Bace was transported to Washington Township Police Headquarters where he was issued a criminal complaint for criminal trespass and theft of moveable property.
Bace was later released with a pending court date in Morris County Superior Court.
