U.S. Border Patrol agents in Yuma on Friday rescued an 18-year-old woman, originally reported missing, from a man they say kidnapped her, officials said.
Chandler Golden, 20, of Chandler, was arrested by Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers Sept. 8 at the immigration checkpoint east of Yuma, according to information provided by DPS and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Golden was booked in the Yuma County jail on charges of kidnapping, a DPS official said.
Agents at the immigration checkpoint selected the man's 2016 Jeep Patriot for a secondary search after a canine alerted to it, officials said.
The woman, who is from Gilbert, and Golden were questioned separately, which is when the woman told officials she had been taken against her will and beaten, officials said.
According to officials, the two had previously been in a relationship and the kidnapping was a domestic-violence situation.
After running a record check on both people, agents said they learned the woman was reported missing from the Phoenix area.
The woman was taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center before returning to her family.
Golden was booked into the Yuma County jail with bond set at $75,000, records show.
"We prepare our agents to handle all sorts of situations in all types of environments," said Anthony Provaznik, chief patrol agent of the Yuma Sector. "It was with this training that agents were able to save a woman from her kidnapper, leading to her eventual return to her family.”
